Roanoke River

September 5th, 2007 · No Comments

The Roanoke River Partners offer some exceptional opportunities for eco-travel.  You can literally canoe down the river for days and at night you camp on a platform over the river. I’ve gone on a couple 5 or 6 hour canoe trips but never an over-night. I’m thinking the temps need to spiral into the 60s during the day and 50s at night for the no-see-ums and skeeters to be tolerable.

That reminds me of my to-do list for this blog:
1. find photos of trips to wetlands of eastern NC on backup CDs
2. buy more bug spray
3. go to Merchants Mill Pond State Park (now those are some terrific photos, I’ve been there numerous times… okay then… where are those darn CDs?)

NC eco-tourism source

Found a great eco-tourism source for my state, North Carolina. Click here to visit Eco-TourismNC and prepare for some Tyrrell County swamp information. I thought Hyde County was at the end of nowhere — until I visited Tyrrell County and Columbia.

Hyde County, NC — Lake Mattamuskeet

September 4th, 2007 · No Comments

Our first estuary eco-tourism site is Lake Mattamuskeet in Hyde County, NC [USA]. The history of this lake is even more fascinating than the wildlife.

Visit soon, Swan Days to be held every December, if memory serves. More information as soon as I can dig up some photos. Click here to view the Lake Mattamuskeet Foundation website.
