My husband and I don’t have any big plans for our anniversary. We’re going to drop the kids off at drop-in daycare and go enjoy a meal to ourselves. My husband took the day off from work to honor “us”, as well. We’re going to spend the rest of the time working our behinds off, as tomorrow is the BIG yard sale. We’ve accumulated a bunch of stuff and its time to make some Christmas money. We’ve even gotten my mom and a few friends to pitch in stuff to sell. Hopefully it will go well and I can get Andy and the boys a cool surprise for Christmas. In the meantime, here’s a taste of Christmas in our house…..its a little wide….

…and yes, that is one fat cat. He weighs 20 pounds. When I took him to the vet a few weeks ago, the receptionist had to walk me into our exam room and waited while I got him out of the carrier because she said she had to see a cat that big.

Ollie absolutely LOVES pictures. I got some of our recent photos from Virginia Beach printed and he’s been carrying them around for days. I looked through some cabinets and found a little photo album for him and put the recent pictures in it. He was so happy with it, I looked around and found him about 50 more photos ranging back to before Emmett was born and put them in the book for him. He’s curled up in a chair telling Emmett all about the pictures now. Its really cool. I’m teaching him to have memories. There are pictures in there from his two trips to Arkansas to see family. Now he’ll get to remember people he doesn’t get to see very often, like my grandparents. It almost bring tears to my eyes to listen to him describe his relatives and the things we’ve taken him to do. His favorite one to describe is a sequence of 4 photos I took of him when he was 7 months old as he was discovering tulips.

We’re making dinner tonight for my father-in-law’s birthday. He said he didn’t want anything, so I figure that’s the least we can do….the conflict? Tonight is also the first Canes’ game I’ve had a chance to watch in almost 2 weeks. Crap. Even Scott Walker is finally off injured reserve for this one. We owe the Flyers a fat lip, at least, so I should get a good fight in. I guess I’m going to have to utilize the DVR and watch it on tape delay. Is it wrong to cook dinner in a hockey jersey? “Happy Birthday! Now hurry up and eat so I can watch the game!” I guess I need to be a little more polite than that, huh?

My father-in-law came with a built in nickname for the boys. Far Far is Norwegian for father’s father, so it works out great for the little guys. It was one of Emmett’s first words. Today is his birthday and he says he doesn’t want anything, so I figured we would just tell him how much we love him and fix him a really good dinner. Every family needs their own crusty, old Norwegian and we don’t know what we would do without ours.

As can bee seen in the pictures I’ve posted, we’ve let Emmett’s hair grow way too long. It was just so cute and baby-like that I didn’t have the heart to chop it off. Well, last night I finally bit the bullet. We stripped Em naked, put him in the tub and took the scissors to his locks of lovely baby hair. The dry bathtub made for a great hair containment medium and easy clean-up, unfortunately, it wasn’t the greatest place for us to sit and hold him still. No matter. My husband and I took turns snipping off the couple inches left of Emmett’s babydom. Then, we hosed all the hair off of him in the shower. Now he’s freshly coiffed and only in need of a couple little touch-ups. All in all, I’d say we did pretty well, and I’ll be able to say that with even more sincerity when I can catch Em and snip the last piece on the back of his head that’s hanging down. He looks like a little boy now, not a baby.
