It’s 80 degrees outside today, so I’m spending my Saturday recovering from all the Christmas excitement on my mother’s front porch. I’ve got a ton of writing to catch up on, so I’m camped out with the laptop and a legion of Jack Russell terriers. Thompson and Linus have tucked themselves in on the glider, beside me to make sure that I don’t write alone.

Christmas was great. The boys had a fabulous Christmas morning and I think they’re still trying to get over all the excitement. Andy and I are suffering from children overload….but, I think we’ll be taking a break New Year’s Eve to attend a hockey game and a little party afterwards. I’ve just about got all the babysitting lined up. Now, I just have to check the PayPal balance to see if I’ve earned enough to get us there and get the tickets. I hope so, because I dearly miss all of my hockey friends.

I really wanted to share this little Christmas gem. Put this Christmas song in your head and mull it around for a little while, too.

I just told my child that if he didn’t behave I was going to call Santa Claus and tell him to take my son off the Nice list. Crap.

But, on the inside, we’re CANIACS! We’re nuts about our Carolina Hurricanes NHL team. Emmett’s the only one in the family that doesn’t have a jersey, yet. He’ll grow into his brother’s soon, though. We have red with a black square “hurricane warning” flags displayed proudly in front of our house. I have a framed print of the team posing with the Stanley Cup on the wall right next to my desk. We’ve made the trek up to Raleigh for three games so far this season and have managed to watch or listen to the rest. I spend whatever free time I have during hockey season talking about and reading about the Canes. I blog about them when I can, but when I don’t have time, I just catch up with my good friend, wufpirate on his blog. My husband and I even try to make as many East Carolina University Ice Hockey Club games over in Greenville as we can.

I have to admit, the biggest reasons I want to move out of Washington is a.) to get closer to the RBC Center and my Hurricanes and b.) so my boys can play hockey. Sad, huh?

Anyway, this post was brought on by another blog post I read this morning. Several Hurricanes and even Coach Laviolette made some hospital visits around the Triangle area and even took some kids Christmas shopping at Target. Its a great article and some great pictures. I saw of my favorite on-ice personalities show their off-ice faces, like Ray Whitney, Chad LaRose, Cam Ward, Mike Commidore, Rod Brind’Amour, Cory Stillman, and Matt Cullen. The guys that do PR for the Canes have a great job. I’m jealous.

After a loss last night to the Florida Panthers, we’ll be tuned in tonight with our fingers crossed that we can finally own the Tampa Bay Lightning at the St. Pete Times Forum. To think, I lived about 50 blocks from that place, 11 years ago, and didn’t even know what hockey was.

You gotta love the underdog, right? I mean the little guy who fights and fights just to keep his head up….I guess not. Here’s a friend’s perspective on last night’s Carolina Hurricanes’ game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. I think he’s trying to make a statement about our favorite underdog, Chad LaRose.

” Let me tell a story… Not as good as East can spin a yarn… But it’s a real story about last night…..  Yes… the Gods were with us… the Gods of Rock and Roll…

We can skip the whole game until the 12 minute mark in the third….  for some reason I looked over at the organ player…who was wearing a home Francis jersey… And he had this look on his face…  And all of a sudden he started playing In-A-Godda-Divita… which transmorgified into a Let’s Go Canes cheer! I’m not kidding!  This discordent note at the 12 minute mark took a minute and a half to sink into Larose’s head. And soon as it did; he tripped over a Toronto stick and smashed, head first into the board. He sat there….. dazed and confused… as we yelled…  “Get the hell up!”….   The lack of sympathy, and the hurt look on Larose’s face….. Caused all the Larose fans to head to the exits at the 4:44 mark. As soon as they did; the force returned to our team…  GOAL!…. and then GOAL!…        And then GOAL!     The FORCE was STRONG!   And Grahmme played great.

Which leads us to the next home game!  In addition to In-A-Godda-Divita….  Which was great… he played it well.. And it sounds so much better than a Tranosaurus Rex bellowing…     We have another tune… From my description above…

We’ve got to have it!

Dazed and Confused… by Led Zepplin

Quote

Been dazed and confused for so long its not true,
Wanted a center, never bargained for you.
Lots of people talk and few of them know,
Soul of Larose was created below. yeah!

You hurt and abused tellin all of your lies,
Run around sweet center, lord how you hypnotize.
Sweet little center, I dont know where youve been,
Gonna love you center, here I come again.

Every day I work so hard
Bringin home my hard earned pay
Buying a few tickets, but you push me away.
Dont know where youre goin
Only know just where youve been,
Sweet little center, I want you again.

Been dazed and confused for so long, its not true,
Wanted a center, never bargained for you.
Take it easy Larose, let them say what they will.
Will your tongue wag so much when I send JR the bill?”

I guess all the hockey luck in the world comes down to Iron Butterfly and Led Zeppelin. Who knew? Much thanks to John Bonney for having attentive ears and a one of a kind way to tell a story.
